Fake Italy

If I had a TARDIS, a first stop would definitely be to Italy.

But since I can't bend time and space, I go to Monteluce, where,
(if you squint)
you would swear you were in Tuscany.

I may not have a TARDIS, but I do travel with the doctor.
Monteluce couldn't be prettier.

She'll have the 2012 Juicy Juice and the gruyere on focaccia tapas.
(No joke, kid loves fancy cheese)

Side note: with the many various ridiculous British pop culture references as the focal point of the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, they really couldn't throw in one blue police box?

Pretty Flowers

... from my pretty sister in Florida
for my birthday.

Gorgeous! And they held up a loooong time.

I always say that I don't worry about what other people think because the biggest snob I know is me. Flowers are one area where I let my snobbiness shine. After working as a florist for a long time I gained a disdain for certain buds as cheap and fleeting, and a love for others I'd never heard of before. My favorites are Lilies (of course) and delphiniums. The winner for best smell is peonies. (If you ever need help with floral arrangements, shoot me a line and I'll make sure only the good stuff makes it's way into your vases).  Maybe someday I'll have the resources to plant a flower garden, but for now I have neither the time nor tolerance for the keeping of greens that don't pull their weight by contributing in the kitchen.

Elsie the AC Inspector

The AC was repaired, and ever since then Elsie has taken special delight in standing in front of the vent just reveling in the cool air. Also, it's rained for the past three days and it is just so pleasant- my garden is thriving and the world is a much more bearable place to be.

The Lucky Streak Continues!

The house is an oven when the AC is broken, so there's nothing to do but try to stay cool outside. I had a repairman out today, who had a look at it and said he'd come back to do some work on it day after tomorrow.  Monday can't come soon enough.

Oh give me a home...

where organic veggies roam, and the skies are not cloudy all day.
For many years I never planted a garden because I never knew when I would, literally, be pulling up my roots. But this year I got tired of waiting for home, and put some plants in the ground.

Now instead of buying produce from Chile at the grocery store that's been sprayed down with every pesticide known to man I'm picking organic bell peppers and tomatoes and cucumbers and eggplants in my back yard. (Actually the eggplants aren't in yet, but soon... soon.)

Father's Day 2012

For Father's Day this year I, ahem, Elsie, got Peter tickets to see his beloved Yankees playing our Braves here in Atlanta.
I had to sell both my kidneys to afford parking, but it was worth it for him to be able to take his mini-me to her first baseball game.
In a bizarre twist of fate we were seated just in front of the world's loudest hasidic jews, which is exactly where we were seated at our last game at Yankee stadium. I know Dr A appreciated being seated near other Yankees fans- also, they were nice enough to take this picture for me-
