On the phone

I recently googled "What I wish someone had told me before I went into labor" hoping to find some nugget of knowledge that would help me in some way. Unfortunately, all I found was trivia that, well, lets face it, the moms who'd written really SHOULD have already known. Come on, people- you have 9 months to read up on this stuff!

Something I would like to share with the general pregnant population is this:

Turn off your cell phone,

because, in your last week your phone will look like this: and every message/ call will be the exact same, and you will want to, but not be able to, say the exact same things over and over and over:

Hiiii! Have you had the baby yet?

Nope, not yet

How are you feeling?

Awesome, thanks! (aside from the excruciating back pain, swollen feet, nausea, headaches and insomnia)

What did your doctor say?

She'll be born when she's ready. (Actually, that's a summation of a twenty minute conversation about my cervix).

Anything I can do to help out?

Nope, we're completely ready, when she is. (But feel free to come over and cook dinner without judging me for wearing the hideous pineapple print housedress I bought in the caribbean for about the millionth day in a row.)

Well, make sure you call me when you go into labor!

Absolutely! (Because I definitely want to be annoyed when I'm trying to have a baby).

--------------------------------------------------------------

So, really, the bottom line is, turn off your cell phone during the last week of pregnancy. You'll avoid a whole bunch of aggravation, and you won't feel compelled to return the gazillion missed calls/ messages because really, the people who call during that last week can be split into two groups: and those who really need to talk to you will find other ways that doesn't involve driving you crazy.

----------------------POST EDIT-------------------------

I don't know if this is how it is for everyone, but Pregnancy week #40 finds me exhausted, in pain, swollen from head to toes, and just generally super duper cranky. Why do so many people want to chat with such a miserable creature?

Seriously, people were calling and texting when they knew I was in labor. Ivan was so mad and I just didn't care. Do what you have to do and if you don't want to see people after you have Lillie, then don't. Make yourself happy!

Now that Skye and I have discovered that you hate us and never want to talk to us b/c 1,999,999,999,999,997 of those messages and calls were from us I wanted to let you know that this post made both of us laugh out loud. I love the graphics. Did you make those yourself? B/c if so they are even BETTER!

Oh. And I was planning on bringing over this pan of ... Pasta-don't-sucko. If you want it pre-Lilly you can have it or it can wait until Her Highness you can have it then. In case you can't tell I created the recipe and name myself. IT'S DELICIOUS!!!

Peace out, meanie.

LOL- I WISH all the calls were from you! You guys are totally in the pink slice of the pie chart! (Of course those graphics are home made- I don't think I could find graphics that crappy anywhere else)

Also, I think it's a given that folks bearing pasta-don't-sucko are always welcome. ALWAYS. But you're still not allowed to judge me for the completely ridiculous clothes I'll almost definitely be wearing. Just facebook me before stopping by, cause I'm totally planning to keep the phone off till the big day.

Pasta-don't-sucko AND The Bicketts- sounds like a great evening to me! Can't wait :)

being 32 weeks myself, I am glad to have read this! Now I have a sick curiosity to google want people wish they had known before labor... I can't imagine there is anything peopel didn't know, since perfect strangers walk up to a pregnant woman and tell her everything they deem important to know. you can't escape it! I do wish people would stop asking me about names since they are just going to share every opinion they ever had about the names I selected. :P
